One of Dynasty Warriors 7's major modes of play is "Chronicle Mode." In this mode, you select stages from a gridded map. Some stages are battles which depict various situations from Sangokushi along with some "if" scenarios. You'll also find some stages that are set up like city areas, where you create weapons, interact with generals, and even take quizzes that test your Sangokushi knowledge.

Chronicle Mode is playable in two player co-op, with support for both online play and local split screen. Both players can move about on their own or team up to take on tough enemies. The game also has powerful group attacks.
