G.Rev Shares Latest Shmup Details

PS3 Mamorukun demo coming next month. Xbox 360 Strania gets download expansion and arcade release.

G.Rev held a shooting event at Shinjuku's Loft Plus One event space on Saturday. As reported at 4Gamer, the publisher announced new plans for its upcoming PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 shooters.

For PS3 owners, the big news is that the updated port/remake of Mamorukun wa Nowareteishimatta will be getting a demo. This will arrive in the middle of March, ahead of the game's March 31 release date.

G.Rev CEO Hiroyuki Maruyama showed off a live demonstration of the game. He also hinted at plans to offer PS3 owners the 8 bit musical arrangements and Vocaloid music that was available for the Xbox 360 version. The game will also be getting new music, Maruyama revealed.

For Xbox 360 owners, and arcade shooters as well, Maruyama had some big announcements for Strania The Stella Machina, a vertical shooter that was announced for Xbox Live Arcade back in October and is due for release in early Spring.

Strania was actually originally announced for arcades, but we heard nothing about it until the Xbox Live Arcade version's announcement. It turns out that an arcade version is still in the works. Maruyama told attendees that the arcade version was actually not planned but G.Rev changed its mind based off strong demand from players.

The arcade version will make use of Taito's NESiCAxLive distribution system. It will be playable at next week's AOU Amusement Expo show (being held on 2/18 and 2/19 at Makuhari Messe).

Timed with the release of the arcade version, G.Rev is planning on releasing a downloadable expansion for the Xbox Live Arcade version. This is titled "Side Vower" and offers a new story told from the perspective of the enemy Vower Army forces. This means you'll be facing off against the characters and mecha you play as in the main game. Pricing and release time frame for the download content were not announced.

As one would expect of an Xbox Live Arcade game, Strania is a worldwide release. You'll find further details on the game at the fully bilingual official site.
