Tales of Xillia: Meet Leia Roland

Latest on the new PS3 Tales game.

Famitsu.com has delivered a closer look at Leia Roland, the fourth playable character in Tales of Xillia.

The bright and cheerful Leia (voiced by Saori Hayami) is the game's second Mutsumi Inomata designed character (Inomata also designed Milla, shown to the right of Leia in the above pic). She's 15 years old and 158 centimeters. A childhood friend of main character Jude, Leia works in her family-run inn and but is also training to be a nurse. She's always thinking about others, sometimes even going too far and worrying endlessly. In fighting and sports, she gets heated up about winning, but believes that effort is more important than coming out on top.

Famitsu provides some background story details, which you may or may not consider spoiler material, so I'll separate it a bit.

Leia's involvement in the story begins after Jude, Milla and Alvin have left the capital city, being pursued by the army due to some earlier happenings (you can read details here). They come to Jude's home town, where Jude has a reunion with Leia.

Leia is training to be a nurse with Jude's parents, both doctors. Jude's house serves as the town's only hospital. When Jude and crew arrive, they're asked to head off with Leia to a nearby mine to find a special mineral that's needed to create a certain medicine.

While exploring the mine with Leia and crew, you'll make use of another field command. As previously detailed, when exploring fields, you'll be able to use special actions to advance further -- crawling through holes, climbing up ledges, and so forth. In the mine, you'll make use of a "dig" command.

During battle, Leia makes use of a club as her weapon. Like all characters, she has personal skills (details on this system here). Her skill lets her extend the reach of her club for a brief period. As Leia rises in skill, the reach of the club and the length of use for this persona skill will increase.

Also detailed in Famitsu is the game's "Link Arts" system. This is a group attack system of sorts. During battle, your character is linked up to another character, indicated by a light connecting the two. As previously detailed, the character you're controlling is Master and the other character is Partner. When in this link mode, your partner character will support you as you attack enemies. Attacking in this fashion will build up a gauge. Once this gauge fills up, if you make the master character use a particular arts move, the partner character will follow and you'll get a special group attack. Famitsu shows such attacks between Jude and Milla (shown below via Famitsu.com) and Milla and Alvin.
