Namco Bandai's newest DS title is drawing comparisons to Professor Layton, just like a couple of Konami games whose names I can't remember off hand
Revealed in this week's Famitsu, Treasure Report: Kikai Shikake no Isan is a puzzle solving adventure game with a scenario from Yukinori Kitajima (428, Okamiden, Chaos Rings, Imabikisou), music from Yasunori Mitsuda (Chrono Cross, Xenoblade, etc.), and character designs from Gurihiru.
The game follows the exploits of a reporter named John Evans. Famitsu also introduces such characters as newcomer cameraman Emily Smith, a mysterious kid named Nino, and a dog named Poochie. The story surrounds a missing adventure novelist and a search for a great fortune.
Gameplay is split into three parts: story, investigation and puzzle solving. The story promises to be a slightly adult adventure mystery, told with abundant animation sequences. The investigation component involves using the stylus to point to mysterious spots. The puzzle solving involves figuring out clues and devices that you discover during your investigation.
A release for Treasure Report is set for May 20.
