Nintendogs + Cats Approaching Two Million Sales

Nintendo shares updated million sellers list.

Nintendo shared its latest list of first party million selling software today. 3DS joined the platinum club quickly as launch title Nintendogs + cats reached 1.71 million units through March 31, 2011.

Here's the full list. Yes, it's a giant image.

Nintendogs + Cats was most popular outside of Japan, where it sold 1.25 million units. Japan contributed 460,000 units.

It should be noted that Media Create's most recent sales chart reports under 200,000 life to date sales for Nintendogs + cats. Nintendo is presumably listing shipped figures, although its earnings statement does use the term "sales."

In its earnings report yesterday, Nintendo said that the 3DS has two million sellers. That would mean one third party title, presumably Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition. Capcom already confirmed one million shipments for the game quickly following release.

Nintendo released three versions of Nintendogs + Cats.

Other new additions to the million sellers club this past fiscal year were Mario Sports Mix, Kirby's Epic Yarn, Super Mario All-Stars Limited Edition, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Wii Party, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Dragon Quest IX's international version (published outside of Japan by Nintendo, in Japan by Square Enix), Mario vs Donkey Kong Mini-Land Mayhem!, Art Academy, Pokemon Black & White, and Professor Layton and the Unwound Future (published outside of Japan by Nintendo, in Japan by Level-5).

Excluding bundled software, Nintendo's top selling title for the year was Pokemon Black & White, with 11.51 million units worldwide. Japan contributed 5.26 million with other regions accounting for 6.25 million.

You can see lots and lots of fiscal stats in Nintendo's supplemental earnings report (PDF). The final couple of pages of the report have a release calendar which may contain some surprises for your region of the world (or maybe not... the Japanese list is all old)
