Team Etrian Odyssey Teams with Team Atelier For New Fantasy RPG

A slow life RPG with alchemy and battle elements from Atlus for the DS.

We passed along some preliminary details on Nora to Kaku no Koubou earlier today. Sokuho @ Hokanko has since delivered a more detailed report straight from the pages of this week's Famitsu.

As detailed earlier, the big draw for this Atlus published DS fantasy RPG, whose full Japanese name translates to Nora and the Engraving Studio: The Witch of the Misty Forest, is that it's being worked on by Shigeo Komori, who directed Etrian Odyssey II and III and worked on the scenario for Devil Summoner and Princess Crown.

Komori is the producer of Nora to Kaku no Koubou. But he's not the only major name. The game's scenario is from Shinichi Yoshiike of Atelier series fame. Character designs are from Yuji Himukai (Etrian Odyssey) with music from Michiko Naruke (Wild Arms, Riz-Zoawd).

The game's background story centers on a legend called Tenperina which was passed down in the countryside. According to this legend, a witch named Vierra, the misty forest witch mentioned in the title, resides in a nearby lake. Main character Nora has come to the Misty Forest to master her trade, but she's suspected of being a witch. She decides to help the people of town in order to show her innocence.

Sixteen-year-old Nora, full name Nora Brandoll (voiced by Ayana Taketatsu) practices a trade that I'm not sure how to write in English. She's capable of controlling time and can use this in an alchemy sort of way to create new items out of old ones. In an interview with the magazine, Komori noted that because of the time connection it's different from alchemy.

Famitsu also introduces a couple of other characters. Lutz Anelius (voiced by Kenichi Suzumura) is a new 16-year-old adventurer who dreams of making a fortune by offing the witch (which is presumably a problem, as Nora is accused of being the witch). Keke (voiced by Ikue Ootani) is a boy of the Tik race who came to town with Nora. His race looks like a mix of beast and human.

Gameplay appears to involve an Atelier-like mix of quests, item creation and battle. By taking on quests, you'll earn items which Nora can convert into more precious items using her special abilities. The battle system layout looks like Atelier Mari, according to Sokuho's report.

In his interview with the magazine, Komori said the project originally started as an idea that Yoshiike proposed to Success. He described the game as a "slow life RPG."

Development is currently at 85%. A release is set for July 21, priced ¥6,279.
