Iwata Asks About Resident Evil
Producer Masachika Kawata fields questions on the two 3DS Resident Evil games.
Resident Evil is the topic of the latest third party Iwata Asks column. Nintendo's CEO asks Capcom's Masachika Kawata, producer of The Mercenaries 3D and Revelations, about the two projects.
One interesting bit mentioned in the interview is that Resident Evil Revelations started development ahead of The Mercenaries 3D. Of course, this isn't too much of a surprise considering Revelations was announced and went playable first.
Mercenaries is coming out first, though (next week!). The reason Revelations is taking longer, explained Kawata, is that the development staff is taking their time in working on the scenario and other areas of the game. However, they wanted to get something out as close to the 3DS launch as possible, so they began making working on Mercenaries, first as a technology test. It also happened to be the case that there was demand for Mercenaries to be released as a solo product (the game has its origins as mini games in the recent console Resident Evils), so it fit perfectly.
Revelations and The Mercenaries share staff members, and Kawata feels they've been able to put the knowhow from developing Mercenaries into developing Revelations.
There's a lot more in the interview, including some talk about past Resident Evil projects. Nintendo usually puts up translations of the 3DS-related Iwata Asks columns, so check the Nintendo.com Iwata Asks portal over the coming days for an English version.
