Square Enix Producers Discuss Final Fantasy 20 and Dragon Quest 20

And other ridiculous topics too.

Final Fantasy XV and Dragon Quest X have yet to be shown to the public. But Famitsu decided to jump ahead a few numbers for some interviews it held with Square Enix's production staff for company feature that appeared in Weekly Famitsu a couple of weeks back.

The magazine asked a few producers to share their brief vision for Dragon Quest 20 and Final Fantasy 20. This was just one of a series of slightly odd questions posed to the staff.

Here's a sampling of responses, based off a transcript that was posted today at Famitsu.com

Hiromichi Tanaka

Producer of Final Fantasy XI.

Responded FFII's Ming-Wu, in the sense that he's like the development staff's guardian.

Responded with Ethna, as he wants to clear out the poisons from his body.

Takehiro Ando

Producer of Chaos Rings, Knights of Crystal and Final Fantasy Tactics (iOS).

Heavy Metal Thuner is a rock-themed PS2 game.

What's your favorite Square Enix game?
Said that he likes all his own games, but his favorite is probably Heavy Metal Thunder.

Who's the Square Enix developer you're most watching?
Said he keeps an eye on all creators, but number one is Takamasa Shiba. They went to junior high, high school and college together. (Later in the interview, Ando revealed that he and Shiba got into a fist fight in the place where Square Enix's office now stands).

What would you do if you were Square Enix's CEO?
Asked that they not ask him about DQ and FF, as these classics would be corrupted.

Live A Live, which was his first title as director.

Who's the Square Enix developer you're most watching?
Said he's keeping an eye on Akitoshi Kawazu, who has been silent of late.

What would you do if you were Square Enix's CEO?
Said he'd offer the Square Enix Cloud service (which has nothing to do with the character with the pointy hair), a platform that would allow all content to be enjoyed on all platforms. He would also make a Square Enix Land which would offer both digital and analogue entertainment, including the SQE48 idol group.

What will DQ20 and FF20 be like?
He wants DQ20 to be a multi genre RPG that can be enjoyed in package form, online and as a social game. For FF20, he expects a large scale RPG, one where you can experience the good fragrance of the heroine and the stink of the Malboro enemy.

What DQ or FF character is most like you?
Cid. He likes FFVII's Cid, although people around him say that he's like FFVI's Cid.

Tokida also shared a top secret episode from the time of Seiken Densetsu 2's development. He was working on a different project. The Seiken Densetsu 2 team had just finished work on their game and were having a party in the company's break room. A bug was discovered in the game, so they had to return to work. Tokida entered the break room, found himself all alone, and took all the remaining liquor and food.
