Dragon Quest X Official Site Opens

A few additional details on the next numbered DQ game.

The "dqx.jp" teaser site from a couple of days back transformed today in the official site for Dragon Quest X. Access it here.

The new site is in a teaser state, but it does provide a few new details.

NAME

The game's full name is "Dragon Quest X Mezameshi Itsutsu no Shuzoku Online. The "Online" is part of the title.

The surname translates to something along the lines of "The Five Awakening Races" (this is just a rough translation). The "Five Races" refers to five key races in the game's world. Races here means things like "dwarves" and "elves."

WII VS WII U

The big news from today's press conference is that the game will be released for both Wii nad Wii U. The Wii version's media is listed as "12 inch disc and USB Memory." The Wii U version's media is listed as TBA. The Wii version's release date is listed as 2012. The Wii U version is listed as date TBA.

PLAYER COUNT

The official site lists game as single player. Players can create up to three characters.

CONTROLS

The game will support the full gamut of Wii controls -- Wiimote + Nunchuck, Classic Controller and Classic Controller Pro. It will also support USB keyboard.

STAFF

DQX is being developed internally at Square Enix -- a first for the series (DQIX and DQVIII were made by Level-5. Previous developers included Chunsoft and Arte Piazza).

Staff listed at the official site include:

  • General Director: Yuji Horii
  • Character Design: Akira Toriyama
  • Music: Koichi Sugiyama
  • Director: Jin Fujisawa
  • Producer: Yousuke Saito

BETA TEST

Square Enix will shortly begin seeking beta testers to test out the game. Details will be announced at the official site and at the new Dragon Quest Paradise portal site shortly.
