Which one of these is the in-game version of Keiji Inafune, former Capcom development great turned unexpected consultant for Neptune Mk2 developer Compile Heart?
The answer is... it's actually a trick question! None of those characters are Inafune. But one of them is his niece (just in the game, not in real life).
The above characters are the main cast of Bakudan Handan, a new PSP love sim from Idea Factory's Otomate brand. Keiji Inafune's new Comcept outfit is in the copyright because Inafune is assisting with the game's development.
There is a character named Keiji Inafune in the game. As the game's story goes, Japan's largest theme park, Shoudou Blossom Land, is about to open its doors. This theme park is packed with attractions themed around video games, and was produced by legendary game creator Keiji Inafune.
Things begin to go awry at the park's opening ceremony. As Inafune greets a crowd of spectators and press, an announcement sounds from the park's PA system: "Do you intend to simply throw away money!" A group wearing black tights storms the area and takes Inafune and the park operators hostage.
The park's mascot, Kane De Boo, announces that she is now "Waru De Boo." She calls out her minions, who all wear bear outfits, making the spectators think that the entire affair is part of the opening ceremony. They cheer and laugh. That ends as Waru De Boo sets off her first bomb, bringing down the ferris wheel an sending everyone into a panic.
(The phrase shouted out over the PA system, and the name of the villain, are form a phrase the real Inafune said to one of his employees during a television special covering Capcom's development process. It became an obnoxious meme.)
Waru De Boo announces that she will pick seven heroes to play a series of games. Each day for the next seven days, she will set off a bomb unless one of the seven heroes can clear the game for the day.
Just as Waru De Boo is about to select the seven heroes, one young girl steps up and volunteers. That young girl is Saki Inafune, niece to the park's producer, Keiji Inafune. The energetic Saki is the only one of the seven heroes to volunteer for the games. She plans on clearing her game by receiving advice from her uncle via e-mail.
If you don't like the idea of playing the game as a relative of Keiji Inafune, you're free to change Saki's name.
