Capcom is readying a social entry in the Monster Hunter series for the popular GREE platform. The game is titled Monhan Tankenki: Maboroshi no Shima, which can be translated to Monster Hunter Exploration Journal: Phantom Island.

Set on the mysterious Phantom Island, the game's characters are based off Monster Hunter Frontier Online. You'll explore the island, gathering and raising monsters and pitting them against other monsters. Your goal is to raise the strongest monster on the island.

The game's story begins when you receive an e-mail. Upon opening the e-mail, you find yourself sucked into a door that leads to a different dimension. You find yourself in the world of Phantom Island, where the monsters of Monster Hunter intermix with the monsters native to the island. One thing leads to another and someone decides to hold a tournament to determine the strongest of the monsters.

GREE is currently accepting pre-registration for the game, which will be available for play on various phones later this year. As always, the game is item based, so basic play is free.
