It looks like Fumito Ueda has indeed left Sony, but is still working as a contractor on The Last Guardian. Still no commentary on the matter from Ueda at his Twitter aside from last week's assurance that The Last Guardian is still in production.

Sony to IGN: "Ueda-san is in fact under contract and is committed to completing his work on The Last Guardian."
