Sega Announces Consumer Business Restructuring
Difficulties in Europe and North America force some changes.
Sega Sammy Holdings announced today a restructuring plan for the consumer division of its Sega subsidiary. The moves are being made due to loss forecasts for the current fiscal year.
Among the measures being planned are:
- Streamlining of US and European organizations which will result in a smaller company positioned for sustained profitability.
- Reduction in the number of titles to place a focus on strong, established IPs like Sonic the Hedgehog, Football Manager, Total War and Aliens. Some games will be cancelled.
In its explanation of the need for these measures, Sega Sammy Holdings said that Sega will post an operating loss for the current fiscal year due to a challenging economic climate for home video games in North America and Europe.
