PlayStation Vita Version 1.8 Firmware Update Available
Game Archives support at last!
PlayStation Vita's Version 1.8 Firmware update is available today. As previously detailed, the big feature is support for classic PlayStation titles as part of Sony's Game Archives service. Similar to other territories, support for past releases is being phased in.
Other updated areas include:
- Group Messaging
- While creating a message, you can take a picture using the Vita camera and attach it to the message.
- Music
- You can now play Playlists from your PS3 or iTunes.
- Video
- You can now change playback speed from 0.5 to 2.0. Video also supports three speed skip (back and forward), repeat playback, and auto thumbnail generation.
- Settings
- You can now control many actions with buttons rather than just touch controls. Version 1.8 also adds a Japanese keyboard.
There are a number of other new features for the 1.8 update. See the update page for details.
Correction: The original version of the story reported that the full Game Archives lineup is available. Sony is phasing in releases over the coming weeks.
