Square Enix to hold virtual FFVII Advent Children launch event
Cloud and co-producer Shinji Hashimoto to appear in virtual world.
Those who didn't make the cut for Square Enix's upcoming Final Fantasy VII Advent Children Complete premier event will still have a chance to take part in some of the festivities next week, although perhaps without some of the glamour.
Square Enix announced today a launch event for the Blu-ray release, to be held inside the firm's Square Enix Members Virtual World virtual space. The event will be held on April 15, the day before the Advent Children Complete release, from 18:00 to 24:00. In addition to Advent Children materials being plastered around the virtual space, the event will see special events according to the following schedule:
- 18:00: Appearance by Cloud
- 20:00: Photo-op with staff
- 21:00: Appearance by co-producer Hashimoto (Shinji Hashimoto)
- 22:00: Photo-op with staff
The virtual world will also see special one-day limited quests on the 15th. Registration for these will be held starting at noon.
The quest functionality is a new feature for the virtual world that's being added today. Using this system, players can speak with staff members and NPC characters to kick off special events. Clear these events, and it's possible to earn in-game items.
Also part of today's update are new emotions, including hand clapping and hand waving. The update also adds the ability to input emotion commands through text inputs. Previously, emotions could be triggered exclusively by clicking your icon.
This Advent Children launch event won't be the first time Square Enix has used the virtual space for a major virtual event. Last summer, the company held an announcement ceremony for the Chocobo series which resulted in the announcement of two DS Chocobo games, both of which have since seen release.
