Momotaro Dentetsu Creator Confirms New Wii and DS Entries

New entries for Japan's favorite board game video game series.

Big news at Akira Sakuma's blog.

Hudson hinted at a Momotaro Dentetsu game for Wii in its financial briefing last week. Sure enough, more games in the long-running franchise are on the way. But not just for Wii.

Series creator Akira Sakuma made a post yesterday (May 23) at his blog. In the post, which traced his day traveling around Tokyo, he recalled a conversation with a friend in which he was asked something to the effect of: "For the love of god, Mr. Sakuma! How many Momotetsu games are you making simultaneously?"

Sakuma's response was something to the effect of: "Well... there's the Wii version of Momotaro Dentetsu 2010, Momotaro Dentetsu World for DS, and Momotaro Dentetsu Chu-Shikoku, Momotaro Dentetsu Kinki, Momotaro Dentetsu Aomori, and Momotaro Dentetsu the Tokyo. Maybe six?"

The last four are just mobile games (yes, I totally hate mobile games). The first two are of note. Momotaro Dentetsu 2010 appears to be the Wii entry that was announced in the financial report. Momotaro Dentetsu World is a new DS entry, and I believe it was previously unannounced.

For those unfamiliar, Momotaro Dentetsu is a board game-style series that can considered a mix of sugoroku and Monopoly. The title originated on the Famicom in 1988. Its most recent installment was last year's Momotaro Dentetsu 20th Anniversary for the DS.
