Nintendo Plans New Mario and Wii Fit

Super sequels on the way for later this year.

The online version of the Nihon Keizai Shimbun reports today that Nintendo has both a new version of Wii Fit and a new entry in the Mario series in development for later this year. Nintendo hopes to use both titles to spur domestic Wii sales.

On the new Wii Fit, the report says to expect a release this Fall. Users will be able to connect to the 'net to face off against distant friends and family in "weight loss races." Additionally, the new version will be able to more accurately measure weight and balance.

The story does not share any details on the new Mario game, referring to it only as "New entry in the popular Mario series." A domestic release is planned for later this calendar year.

Word of the new Wii Fit was leaked out earlier. But a new Mario would be somewhat surprising so early, assuming it's a new main entry in the series ala Galaxy and Mario 64.
