PSP, PS3 Top the Hardware Charts

Resident Evil and Heavy Rain see high sell-through rate.

Heavy Rain saw a strong sell-through in its first week.

Media Create's hardware chart for the week covering February 15 through February 21 mirrored its software chart, which was announced earlier in the week.

Reflecting (albeit in reverse) the one-two placement of Resident Evil 5 Alternative Edition (Gold Edition) and God Eater, PSP topped the hardware charts this week with 33,000 units, narrowly beating the PS3's second place 32,000 unit finish. The PSP was actually down some from the week prior, although the PS3 was way up.

On the whole, most hardware saw decreases. Even the PSP go managed to slip some.

Here's the full hardware chart. Last weeks sales are in parenthesis.

  • PSP: 32,796 (39,293)
  • PS3: 32,130 (24,811)
  • Wii: 31,652 (37,501)
  • DSi LL: 24,388 (27,586)
  • DSi: 15,380 (18,082)
  • DS Lite: 5,053 (5,659)
  • Xbox 360: 2,453(3,428)
  • PS2: 1,883 (1,869)
  • PSP go: 1,371 (1,394)

As always, Media Create provided some software sales analysis at its ranking page.

Resident Evil 5 Alternative Edition, in first place for the week with 143,000 units sold, managed to sell a high 84% of its stock. Retailers told Media Create that people who purchased a PS3 with Final Fantasy XIII in December are making Alternative Edition their second purchase for the system.

There were some anecdotal reports of retail sellouts for Heavy Rain floating around the web last week. Media Create lists a high 79.33% sell-through for the game, which placed sixth this week with 27,000 units sold. A sell-through that high means the game is performing better than what distributors may have expected.
