PS3 Tops the Hardware Charts

Yakuza and Fist of the North Star Musou selling faster than predecessors.

Yakuza 4 and Fist of the North Star team with Torne to drive PS3 sales.

It lead the way in software this week with a one-two punch from Fist of the North Star Musou and Yakuza 4. So it shouldn't come as too much of a surprise to learn that PlayStation 3 was the top selling platform for the week.

Presumably thanks to the release of Fist of the North Star, as well as continued success for the Torne DVR kit and Yakuza 4, PS3 remained level with last week, where it experienced a Yakuza-influenced boost.

PSP saw somewhat of a surge this week. But once again PSP go was completely left out. Sony's download-only portable has failed to make major movements post March 18, when Sony and Capcom started including download copies of Monster Hunter Freedom Unite.

Here is the full hardware chart covering March 22 to March 28. Last week's sales are in parenthesis.

  • PS3: 50,448 (50,164)
  • PSP: 46,449 (38,017)
  • Wii: 36,849 (31,101)
  • DSi LL: 23,188 (20,765)
  • DSi: 17,376 (14,256)
  • DS Lite: 4,995 (3,953)
  • Xbox 360: 3,002 (2,419)
  • PSP go: 1,874 (1,491)
  • PS2: 1,785 (1,711)

Media Create also provided some software analysis in its own posting of the sales charts.

The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Fist of the North Star combined for 416,000 units, placing them above the 303,000 of 2008's Gundam Musou 2. The PS3 version sold 85% of stock. The 360 version sold 75%.

Yakuza 4 sold 83,000 units. Now in its second week, it's selling faster than its predecessor.
