Mega Man Universe Set for Japan Too

Capcom retains the Mega Man name for the Japanese release.

Back at Mega Man Universe's ComicCon unveiling, Capcom opened a Japanese teaser site for the game which retained the "Mega Man" name. Many presumed that this was just temporary and the final name would have the typical "Rockman" branding.

Universe has now been officially announced for Japan. As with the rest of the world, the game will see Xbox 360 and PS3 release. Pricing and releasing timing were not announced.

Capcom Japan has kept the "Mega Man Universe" name, something that shouldn't come as a surprise given the content suggested by the first gameplay trailer, which was shown ahead of America's PAX gaming event late last week. You can view that trailer here:

As detailed by Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune in the video, Universe will feature a variety of Mega Mans. Character artwork shared by Capcom includes Mega Man, Rockman, the Mega Man from the original's US box art, and Street Fighter's Ryu.

Aside from what's shown in the trailer, we're going to have to wait for further details from Capcom. Universe does seem to be getting a big push here, with a frequently updated Twitter, so perhaps we can expect more at the Tokyo Game Show next week.
