Valkyria Chronicles 3: Nameless vs Calamity Raven

Meet the cast of Sega's PSP sequel.

Sega's Valkyria Chronicles sequel is coming to PlayStation Portable in January.

Sega shared plenty of details on Valkyria Chronicles 3 via Famitsu just prior to the Tokyo Game Show, and even made the game playable at the event. Today, it provided a more formal introduction, giving us a look at the cast and story for the PSP sequel.

As detailed last month, Valkyria Chronicels 3 takes the story back to 1935, the time of the original PlayStation 3 Valkyria Chronicles. The game takes place in the neutral nation of Gallia, which finds itself caught between warring Imperial and Federation groups.

Taking the central role in the story is Gallian Army squad 422, a group of criminals and deserters that's known as the "Nameless" because its members are referred to by a number. This group is sent out like pawns to the front lines of battle.

The three primary characters in this group and in the game are:

Number 7, Kurt Irving (CV: Yuichi Nakamura)

The game's main character, and a genius officer. He graduated at the head of his class from the Lanseal Royal Military Academy, but something happened that caused him to be sent to the Nameless squad. He wants to restore honor to his name.

Number 13, Riela Marcellis (CV: Aya Endo)

Riela is a descendent of the Valkyria. She has the tremendous powers of her ancestors, and can make use of this to be a destructive force in battle.

At the start of the game, neither she nor those around her know of her Valkyria background. When her squad was wiped out and she alone survived due to her Valkyria powers, she was deemed a "god of death" and was expelled to the Nameless.

Despite this, she's positive and cheerful and opens up immediately to Kurt.

Number 1, Imuka (CV: Masumi Asano)

Her village was wiped out by the Valkyria, and she went off in pursuit of the culprits with a giant weapon in hand. She was rescued by the Nameless. She lives for revenge, and while she does have great ability in battle, she'll ignore her superior officer's orders.

Classified as a sub character, we have Ramsey Kurou, head of the Nameless. Ramsey feels no loyalty what-so-ever to his higher ranks. His outlook on life is that alcohol and women are everything, but he does have an extremely accurate grasp of battle.

The Nameless aren't the only ones fighting for Gallia.

This week's Famitsu and its print counterpart Famitsu.com have provided us with details on Calamity Raven, an enemy special forces group that serves as a rival to the Nameless.

The site introduces three members of this group:

Leader of the group. He desires to split from the Darcsen, a race that's said to have destroyed much of europe in what is called the "Darcsen Calamity."

Lydia Agute

Aide to Dahau, but she feels not the least bit of loyalty towards him. Rather than calling her Dahau's subordinate, she actually appears to be observing Dahau and the Calamity Ravens themselves.

A young Darcsen boy and an admirer of Dahau. He's young and inexperienced, but his determination to win is strong, and he'll valiantly head to the front lines during combat.

You might have read the above descriptions in this week's Flying Get column. You'll also find a few gameplay details from Famitsu in there.
