This Week's Famitsu Reviews
Bleach, Mass Effect 2, Atelier Meruru, Gundam, Pac-Man and Earth Seeker reviewed.
Lots of relatively high profile reviews in Famitsu this week. Let's see what the magzine's reviewers had to say, as passed along at Sokuho@Hokanko.
Mass Effect 2 (PS3)
This week's top rated game scored 10, 9, 8 and 8. Reviewers praised the movie-like world view and presentation and the interactive conversation system.
Atelier Meruru (PS3)
9, 9, 8, 9. Clear time of 20 hours, or over 100 hours for those who explore fully (these figures are provided by the publisher). One reviewer called Meruru the best in the series. Fans will appreciate the appearance of many characters from the series. Balance and tempo are good, and the event drawings are beautiful.
Bleach Soul Ignition (PS3)
7, 7, 7, 7. Over 50 hours of gameplay. Praise included the simple controls and speedy action, making the game accessible to even light users. Perhaps too simple, though, as one of the complains was that the structure is similar for many of the stages. Other reviewers complained about the use of text in the story mode and the low number of event scenes.
Earth Seeker (Wii)
8, 7, 6 and 6. 20 to 30 hours to clear, 60 to 70 hours total play time. Crafts & Meister's long awaited Wii title. Reviewers praised the battle system because its fusion of action and command-based elements allows for non action players to enjoy themselves. There is low variation in weapons, though, and obtaining the materials for creating your own weapons is difficult. The story development is lacking, one reviewer complained. Another said that the battle system's weapon-based attacks and guardian attacks (guardians are the little creatures you recruit to fight along side you) don't fuse together well.
Fish Eyes 3D (3DS)
8, 6, 7, 8. 25 hours to clear, infinite replay value. I don't write about fishing games unless they're developed by Yuji Naka.
Pac-Man & Galaga Dimension (3DS)
8, 7, 7, 8. 25 hours to clear, possibly infinite replay value. Reviewers seemed to like the included Pac-Man Tilt game, saying that the controls and gimmicks match. Regarding Galaga 3D Impact, one reviewer said that the game has good balance, and also offers attraction-style fun.
Gundam Memories (PSP)
7, 7, 7, 8. 12 hours to clear, 40 hours to a full clear. Praise included the variety of missions, the inclusion of story elements, and the cool mobile suit modeling. One reviewer said that the simple controls and tuning elements will make the game attractive to beginner action players.
Gloria Union (PSP)
8, 8, 8, 8. 30 hours to clear, over 100 hours replay value. This latest entry in Sting's Union series of strategy titles doesn't change the gameplay systems much, reviewers said, but the gameplay is solid and interesting, and the strategy has been made deeper through the inclusion of new cards. The game's new sea-going component fits in with both the gameplay and scenario.
