PlayStation 3 Version 4.0 Firmware Update Adds PlayStation Vita Support

Sony Europe's official blog said today that PlayStation 3's Version 4.00 firmware will be available for download some time this week.

For those planning on buying the PlayStation Vita at its Japanese launch on December 17, the firmware will make the PS3 capable of acting as a content management device for the Vita. You'll be able to transfer games, music, photos and videos between the PS3 and Vita, back up Vita save data to the PS3 hardware, and update the Vita's firmware via the PS3's network connection.

The update will also have some new PlayStation Plus features. See Sony Europe's blog post for details.
