Square Enix is holding the official launch even for Final Fantasy XIII-2 at the Bic Camera in Yurakucho today. CEO Yoichi Wada will be joined by producer Yoshinori Kitase, director Motomu Toriyama, songstress Mai Fukui, AKB48 member Yuko Oshima, and a bunch of other people who don't really matter.
Because the official site for the XIII-2 "Jump 13" campaign, which is headed up by Yuko, got over 100,000 "Likes," Yuko will attend the event dressed in the skimpy download content costume that she herself designed. For that reason, and that reason alone, we've dispatched your Andriasang.com Senior Resident Evil and AKB48 Correspondent Alex "cvxfreak" Aniel to Yurakucho to shoot up the event and kidnap Yuko.
We'll be posting the pics Alex sends back in this space, most likely without any text for context, so be sure and check back over the next hour or so. The event officially begins at 6:30 and runs through 7:00.
LIVE UPDATES FOLLOW
7:08: The countdown has ended, and XIII-2 is now officially released! Sorry we couldn't get any pics!
7:01: Alex: "LOL they mistimed the countdown by 1 second... We were at zero when the roman numeral for 1 showed on screen"
6:59: They're doing the final countdown to the start of sales!
6:57: They're showing some of the Yuko commercials -- where she gets a job at Square Enix, test plays the game, and has a meeting about the download content, and so-forth. Alas, we're going to have to wait for the Japanese sites to get pics of Yuko, as we're having no luck.
6:55: AKB48's Yuko Oshima takes the stage, dressed in her DLC costume. She apparently says something about the costume being influenced by FFVII.
6:51: The topic turns to the Judge XIII campaign (which means the AKB48 girl will be appearing soon WOOT!).
6:51: Noel's voice actor Daisuke Kishio appears and makes a few general comments about voice acting work, and also tells people to enjoy the game.
6:48: Kitase and Toriyama take the stage, saying that the game can be enjoyed by both new players and those who played the original.
6:46: The Bic Camera CEO speaks for a bit, mentioning the special XIII-2 videos they showed in September (I think they're talking about the Regza clip). He says he expects big sales form XIII-2.
6:44: Following more introductions for all the guests, CEO Yoichi Wada takes the stage and gives a general welcome, thanking everyone for coming and saying that XIII-2 has improved gameplay over the first one.
6:41: Comedy unit American Zanigari have taken the stage and are interviewing Fukui, asking her what it's like singing a song at 6:30 in the morning. Fukui says that she's known about the FF series since she was a kid.
6:36: It was too crowded for us to get into the press area, so Alex is going to just send text updates along with some pics if he can peer above the heads.
The event has kicked off with Mai Fukui singing the theme song. This is just the theme song for the Japanese PS3 version.
6:26: Here are some pics from outside the Bic Camera that Alex sent over. The event's press area may be too full of mainstream press jerks for us to get in, but we'll try!
6:04: Here are some pics from inside the event space courtesy the Square Enix Members Twitter feed.
